Sangharakshita:
The Boy, the Monk, the Man (Nagabodhi)

Review by Pippa Bavington

If I am honest, I enjoyed this book much more than I was expecting to.
I read it to support my studies and upon asking to become a mitra.

As I read the book, I learnt much about the history of the
Friends of the Western Buddhist Order, now
of course the much-less-of-a-mouthful Triratna!

I thought this book captured the complexity
of Sangharakshita’s nature brilliantly.

Although the author was a friend of his, I did not feel
that the views and stories provided were overly ‘rose-tinted’ by this.
I found my feelings about our founder fluctuated, so in that
respect, the book provoked quite a rollercoaster of emotions.

This book gives a wonderful overview of how Triratna came to be,
and the reasons behind it. I recommend this for anyone wishing to
gain a deeper understanding, and potentially a connection to, this Buddhist Order.
